INTRO

LA MÈRE POULARD restaurant opened in 1888 and has now become famous around the world. In the past, pilgrims were forced to wait on the bay until the tide was low enough to leave. During this time period, Annette Poulard developed the soufflé omelette for the hungry pilgrims.

 

ATMOSPHERE

Ernest Heminway and Yves Saint Laurant, are just some of the many famous celebrities that have visited Mont-Saint-Michel to try this fluffy omelette. There is an impressive wall filled with the photos and autographs of celebrities who have enjoyed this restaurant. The interior is simple, inviting and cozy.

 

The kitchen is located just at the entrance which allows you to see the food preperation process. You can witness how they make the beloved omelette right in front of your eyes. 

 

WHAT TO EAT

Being famous for its soufflé omelette, the main menu is of course omelette. Besides omelettes, there are some appetizers, desserts, fish and lamb. The price between the plate and menu is not a big difference, so actually the menu is more recommendable. As below, fish soup(appetizer) + omelette, bacon&potatoes + dessert is 48 euros while an omelette and one side dish is 38 euros. 

 

SOUPE DE POISSONS ET COQUILLAGES

A warm soup with fish stimulates your taste buds. You can put some cream inside to make it softer or put cream on the bread and dip it in the soup. 

 

L’OMELETTE LA MERE POULARD CUITE AU FEU DE BOIS, AU LARD ET POELEE DE POMMES DE TERRE

They make this soufflé omelette with a 130 year old secret recipe. Different from the normal omelette, the texture is very fluffy and light which melts in your mouth. The quantity of bacons and potatoes is quite large so you will definitely satisfy your hunger.

 

SOUFFLE GLACE A LA POMME ET AU CALVADOS

Fluffy icecream just like their omelette. Calvados, a French alcohol made of apples, and preserved apples are mixed with icecream. It has a sweet but subtle taste of alcohol. 

 

SALADE AUX DEUX SAUMONS, MARINE ET FUME MAISON

This fresh salad with smoked salmon accompainied by various types of vegetables will really fill you up. Overall, their plates are served in big quantities. It could be a good idea to order one set menu and a salad to share if you are dining with someone.

 

O'BON PARIS' NOTE

Marked as one of the most famous restaurants in France, you don't want to miss this delicious dining experience. Located just at the entrance of Mont Saint Michel, La Mere Poulard resturaunt is differnet from the mini snack bar. To taste this fluffy omelette, you must enter the main building that is connected with their hotel.
